Cop allegedly linked to drugs killed in Morong buy-bust op

A policeman accused of recycling seized shabu was killed in a buy-bust operation in Morong, Rizal, the Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) of the Philippine National Police said Wednesday.

Joint elements of the CITF, PNP Intelligence Group and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conduced the buy-bust operation that led to an armed encounter at around 4:20 p.m. on Tuesday against the suspect, Police Officer 2 Gemmo Meneses.

Meneses, who was assigned at Morong Police Station, allegedly drew his firearm after he “sensed that he was dealing with a poseur buyer policeman and aimed towards the operative prompting the operatives to return fire hitting the suspect on his body,” the CITF said.

The suspect was brought to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

CITF said the operation stemmed from the validated intelligence information of the PNP-IG stating that Meneses is “involved in recycling illegal drugs (shabu) and distributing it to his several street drug pushers in the said place.” —Marlly Rome Bondoc/KBK, GMA News
