Part of San Jose City bridge caves in due to rampaging floodwaters

A portion of a bridge in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija has collapsed due to strong rush of floodwaters spawned by continuous heavy rains in the province.

News To Go reported Thursday morning that one lane of the bridge caved in, leaving only one lane passable, but only  to light vehicles.

Local authorities have barred heavy vehicles from using the bridge for fear it will totally collapse.

The city government is asking the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast-track the completion of a new bridge project that for two years has been left unfinished, the report said.

Steel bars and cables of the unfinished beams and columns of the bridge project are already rusting, the report added.
