P300M worth of contraband luxury vehicles destroyed before Duterte in Cagayan

President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday led the condemnation of contraband luxury vehicles and motorcycles valued at P297.53 million in connection with his administration's fight against smuggling.

A total of 68 contraband luxury vehicles with an estimated value of P277.96 million and eight contraband smuggled motorbikes including Harley Davidson, Triumph, and Chopper units valued at P19.57 million were wrecked by a backhoe and a bulldozer before Duterte and other government officials at Port Irene in Sta. Ana, Cagayan.

The values were as of 2014, according to the Presidential Communications Operations Office.

Duterte also witnessed the destruction of smuggled luxury vehicles worth P27.2 million at Port Irene on March 14.

Duterte has been against auctioning off contraband items because he said this would only give the smugglers an opportunity to secure them legally through the Bureau of Customs. — BM, GMA News
