Authorities rescue 3 trafficking victims, arrest facilitator in Tawi-Tawi


Authorities in Tawi-Tawi province on Saturday rescued three supposed victims of human trafficking and arrested their suspected facilitator, Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao police said Sunday.

ARMM Police head Chief Superintendent Graciano Mijares identified the victims as Marilyn Sandido, 19; Aileen Banuelos, 19; and Daryl Lao-ay, 19.

The alleged facilitator, identified as Bernardo Acabo, was arrested and is now facing possible charges for violating the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012. 

Elements of the Bongao Municipal Police Station with personnel from the PNP-Maritime Group conducted the  operation that resulted in the rescue of three.

Police said that the victims and the suspect made a stopover at the Bongao Wharf in Tawi-Tawi and boarded M/V Ever Queen from Siasi town in Sulu on August 3.

At 8:20 p.m. the victims and the suspect were supposed to be transported to Sabah, Malaysia through Illegal backdoor passage.

Mijares said the victims and the suspect were intercepted before they could proceed to Sabah. —LBG, GMA News
