Parents, Bicol school officials to hold dialog over burning of bags

School officials of Bicol Central Academy and the parents of Grade 12 students who had their bags burned inside the school premises will have a dialogue on August 22.

According to a Balitanghali report by GMA News stringer Mike Biando, school administrator James Jaucian was the one who scheduled the meeting with the parents.

It was Jaucian who allegedly ordered the burning of the students' personal belongings. He is also said to be the person heard on the video calling the students "stupid."

The report said the dialogue would also be attended by representatives from Department of Education in Bicol.

Earlier in the day, DepEd Region V regional director Gilbert Sadsad inspected the school and talked to the principal regarding the incident.

In a cellphone video shown in a "24 Oras" report on Sunday, senior high school students could be seen standing next to burning items while a man shouted angrily at them, "Stupid pala kayo eh!"

The report said the students had been ordered to fall in line near where their bags were set on fire. Photos provided by the video uploaded showed that cellphones and laptops were among the destroyed items.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones has said that the Bicol Central Academy could lose its permit to operate once found out that it has violated regulations, adding that it may also lose financial aid from the government. —NB, GMA News
