Vietnamese fishermen nabbed for alleged poaching; ton of tuna, tiger shark seized
Five Vietnamese fishermen including a minor were arrested after they were caught allegedly fishing illegally in Palawan on Wednesday.
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel then seized one ton of yellowfin tuna worth P200,000 and a tiger shark weighing 50 kilos found on the boat the fishermen were in, according to a report on Unang Balita on Monday by Cecille Villarosa.
"Ang Coast Guard po ay nakatanggap ng intel report at para nga po ma-verify ang veracity ng report na 'yan, nagbigay po tayo ng direktiba kay BRP Cabra or CMRRB 4409 para mag-conduct ng patrolya," said Ensign Allison Tindog.
The PCG had a hard time chasing the fishermen.
"Nagkaroon pa ng hot pursuit. Almost an hour itong hot pursuit na ito kasi napakagaling daw mag-maneuver nitong barko ng Vietnamese," Tindog said.
The fishermen, who will face charges of poaching, are now under the custody of PCG.
They were made to undergo a medical checkup.
The fishermen had not issued a statement as of posting time.
The PCG gave the seized fish to the provincial jail. —KG, GMA News
