Robredo says OVP team kept from Boracay during closure

Vice President Leni Robredo said a team from the Office of the Vice President was kept from going to Boracay during its six-month closure to non-residents.

Robredo said the team was supposed to meet with Boracay residents to find out how they could be helped with the suddenly limited opportunities due to the island's rehabilitation.

She said another team would be sent to Boracay now that it is open to non-residents.

"Tatanungin... kung ano iyong puwede nilang gawin, tapos tutulong kami. Siguro within the month magpapadala kami ng team," Robredo said.

"Kasi actually nandito na kami three months ago. Nandito na kami three months ago para gawin iyon, pero hindi kasi kami pinayagan at the time," she added.

"Hindi kami pinayagan. Mayroon yatang mga rules dati iyong inter-agency task force. Pero ngayon na bukas na iyong Boracay, baka ano na, baka mas buwelo na," Robredo said.

Boracay was closed to non-residents for five months after President Rodrigo Duterte called it a cesspool due to the pollution in its waters.

It was opened only recently with some activities already limited or prohibited altogether to keep the tourists at the resort island within its holding capacity. —NB, GMA News
