Fire hits Navy bunker in Cavite where ammunition are stored


Fire hit a Philippine Navy bunker in Sangley Point in Cavite on Friday, according to Jonathan Andal's report on Dobol B sa News TV.

No one was injured in the incident, but the bunker is used as a storage facility for ammunition for small firearms,  the report said, citing Navy spokesman Commander Jonathan Zata.

Zata said the bunker was only one of the more or less 10 bunkers inside the Naval Ordnance Depot where some of the military's firearms, ammunition and explosives are stored.

Before the fire, an explosion was heard in the area.

In an interview on Dobol B sa News TV, Zata said the fire broke out sometime between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m..

"Currently po ang ating onsite commander and first responders ay naka-deploy na po sa Naval Ordnance Depot at from the last report of the commander [ay] contained na po ang sunog," he said.

Investigation was ongoing to determine to cause of the fire as of posting time. —KBK, GMA News
