Clear skies up in Surigao City after Samuel

Residents have been allowed to go home while classes have resumed in Surigao City as clear skies emerged in the aftermath of tropical depression Samuel.

According to a report by Cedric Castillo in Balita Pilipinas, ferries going to nearby Dinagat Islands have also been also allowed to resume their operations.

"Dapat Lunes kami makauwi. Eh walang biyahe noong Lunes saka kahapon,” one of the ferry's crew members said.

Passengers are also gearing up for the resumed operations of the Roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) services at the Lipata port pending clearance of the Philippine Coast Guard.

Heavy rains, however, have not stopped since last night in Eastern Samar where Samuel made landfall. This has resulted in flooding in the towns of San Julian, Can-avid, Dolores, Oras, Jipapad and Arteche.

A landslide also occurred along a highway in Jipadpad even though the highway remains passable.

Fortunately, no casualties were recorded as a result of the landslide.

Those in the coastal area of Baybay City, Leyte, on the other hand, were evacuated on Tuesday.

Heavy rains also occurred in Baybay on Tuesday night, but some residents living in coastal areas still chose to remain in their homes.

"Meron talagang matitigas 'yung ulo. Kahit anong gawin natin na pakiusapan, ayaw pa rin lumikas kasi may mga gamit daw sila na maiiwan,” Supt. Ricky Reli of Baybay city police said. — MDM, GMA News
