373 families in Bukidnon affected by Monday quake, says exec

A total of 373 families across various municipalities in Bukidnon were affected by the 5.9-magnitude earthquake that jolted the province on Monday, a provincial public information officer told GMA News’ QRT on Wednesday.

According to Hansel Echavez, the affected residents are from Maramag, Don Carlos, Dangcagan, Kitaotao, Talakag, and the quake’s epicenter Kadingilan.

Echavez also said 11 individuals reportedly sustained minor injuries.

The local government appealed for additional tents for evacuees and food packs for families who were displaced from their homes.

Echavez also reported around 20 elementary and high school buildings were damaged while one private hospital has not yet been given clearance by authorities.

The barangay hall of Camp 1 in Maramag, Bukidnon, meanwhile is now unusable after the earthquake.

According to a Wednesday report on QRT by Victoria Tulad, there were cracks in the building's walls and debris from the walls and ceiling scattered on the floor.

The building has been declared unfit for use by the local structural engineer.

Maramag Mayor Jose Joel Doromal said the city government is not yet able to relocate some 200 residents who are crammed into tents in an evacuation center.

“‘Pag nakita natin na medyo matatag pa naman at kailangan pang balikan, siyempre ‘yun lang po ‘yung mga lupain din nila, kailangan talagang babalik sila doon,” the mayor said regarding residents’ houses.

No fatalities and only minor injuries were recorded after the quake.

Doromal said there is no need to declare a state of calamity as they still have enough relief goods for affected residents.

However, materials for rebuilding damaged houses are still needed.

In Kadilingan, the epicenter of the quake, 271 houses were earlier reported to have been damaged. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
