Negros solon recovers weeks after Batasan blast

One of the lawmakers who was critically injured in the November 13 explosion at Batasan Pambansa complex in Quezon City has recovered, and could likely attend the resumption of legislative sessions on January 21. The Visayan Daily Star on Saturday reported that Negros Oriental Rep. Henry Pryde Teves was moved out of the intensive care unit of St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City on Tuesday. Former congressman Herminio Teves, the grandfather of Henry, said the young solon was recuperating in a private room at the said hospital. The elder Teves said his grandson had started to sit on his bed, and would soon be using a walker to move around. Negros Oriental Gov. Emilio Macias II visited the younger Teves last Tuesday. Macias, who is also a medical doctor, said he was happy to see that Rep. Teves was not only out of danger but “is in a state of fast recovery." “He is alert and is moving every part of his body," Macias said, adding that Rep. Teves fractured his leg and sustained deep burns in his arms. “But his face looks okay. It will only be a matter of time before he reports back for duty," Macias said. Teves and Rep. Luzviminda Ilagan were among the lawmakers injured in the blast that killed Basilan Rep. Wahab Akbar, and five others. - GMANews.TV
