Passenger ship runs aground in Tagbilaran Channel

A passenger vessels with 825 crew and passengers ran aground in the Tagbilaran Channel in Bohol due to strong winds Friday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday. Lieutenant Senior Grade Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, said no casualty was reported but PCG search and rescue personnel have yet to completely fetch the crew and passengers from the stalled vessel. “As of Saturday afternoon, about 300 passengers were taken to the port of Tagbilaran and PCG personnel continued to pick up the remaining crew and passengers. But all of them are safe," said Balilo. At 10:30 a.m. Friday, M/V Dipolog Princess of Sulpicio Lines Inc. ran aground near Beacon Nr. 5 in the Tagbilaran Channel while it was maneuvering to leave the port of Tagbilaran City. The strong northeasterly winds buffeting the area caused the vessel to run aground, Balilo said. Quoting reports reaching PCG headquarters, Balilo said rescue teams are waiting for the highest tide in order to haul off the ship to port. - GMANews.TV
