Man runs amuck, kills 2 kids, hurts 1 in Cagayan

An 18-year-old man who ran amuck hacked and stabbed dead two children, and seriously injured a third before he was arrested in Cagayan province. Radio dzRH reported that police were still determining the motive behind the sudden attack by suspected killer Danilo Tolentino Jr against the three children who were harvesting string beans in the area at the time of the crime. The incident took place in Santa Clara village in Gonzaga, a second-class town with a population of 32,079 people in 6,039 households. Killed in the attack were Marilyn Salimbay, 4; and Levy Luday, 10. Both sustained multiple stab and hack wounds in different parts of their body. In critical condition was Maribeth Pudtaan, 13. She was transferred to the Aparri provincial hospital after a hospital she was initially rushed to lacked the needed facilities. Initial police reports indicated the suspect was after Pudtaan, whom he stabbed in the neck and tried to rape.
