PBA: Abueva scores 19 as Alaska bounces back with win over GlobalPort



Calvin Abueva had 19 points, while Jayvee Casio had 14 as the Alaska Aces returned to their winning ways by defeating GlobalPort, 87-84, on Saturday.

Four out of the five Alaska starters scored in double figures, as Cyrus Baguio and Sonny Thoss had 10 each.

After leading 37-33 at the half, GLobalPort allowed 33 points in the third to give Alaska a 66-60 lead heading into the final frame.

The Aces led by as much as 14 in the fourth, after a Jayvee Casio trey at the 8:42 mark, 75-61. Alaska kept a double-digit lead up until the final four minutes, before Alex Cabagnot connected on a triple and Stanley Pringle strung six points to trim the lead to three, 87-84.

The two teams exchanged misses in the final 2:11 of the game as Alaska held on for the win.

Terrence Romeo led GlobalPort with 26 points off the bench, while Stanley Pringle chipped in 15 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. The Batang Pier also got a lot from starters Alex Cabagnot and Mark Isip. Cabagnot had 15 points, 14 boards and four assists, while Isip tallied 12 points and four rebounds.

With the win, Alaska regained the top spot of the standings with a 7-1 record, a victory ahead of San Miguel who is in second place with 6-1. GlobalPort slid down to seventh with a 4-4 win-loss card. - Renee Fopalan, GMA News
