Stallone, Schwarzenegger among stars in Macau for Pacquiao-Algieri fight

MACAU — The stars are starting to show up.

Hollywood icons Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger are already in town to witness the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title clash between Manny Pacquiao and Chris Algieri Sunday at the Cotai Arena inside the Venetian Hotel Macao here.

Sources from the Pacquiao camp bared that Stallone tried to seek an audience with Pacquiao in his luxurious suite at the 38th floor of this Chinese gambling resort.

He, however, went down as soon as he noticed a lot of people inside the suite to attend Pacquiao's regular bible study.

Schwarzenegger, on the other hand, has already checked in and is expected to be part of the crowd when the eight-division champion defends his crown against young buck Algieri.

Stallone said he will root for Algieri since his rise to prominence has some semblance to his iconic film, "Rocky", which is about a hardworking middle-aged boxer who went on to become a world champion.

"In my business, life imitates art. But in Chris' case, I think it's the other way around," said Stallone in a previous interview. "Watching Chris rebound from those two first-round knockdowns against Ruslan Provodnikov and outbox him the next 11 rounds to win the title (WBO light welterweight title) was more than an upset."

"It was Rocky-esque. As for his fight against Manny Pacquiao, all I can say to you Chris is that great movies deserve great sequels and I won't be the least surprised to see you give us one in Macau," the 68-year-old superstar said.

Pacquiao's fight has been a major attraction for the world's brightest stars.

From actors Mark Wahlberg, Mickey Rourke and Jeremy Renner to basketball stars Kobe Bryant and Metta World Peace, Pacquiao's intensity in the ring has brought them all to their feet. In the audience during his fight against Brandon Rios last year were football star David Beckham and fashion icon Paris Hilton.
