Dallas Cowboys owner desperate to host Pacquiao-Mayweather superfight

With the possibility of a superfight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather open again, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is desperate for first dibs on hosting what could be the biggest boxing event in history.

"It's well known that I would walk over and guess have to get in some boat time too to get over and meet [Bob Arum] in China to get it done," Jones told 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM] on Friday.

He declared his desire days before Pacquiao dominated American boxer Chris Algieri in Macau, the result of which could influence the arrangement of the long-awaited super fight.

Pacquiao has previously fought at the home of the Dallas Cowboys, which served as the venue of his clash with Joshua Clottey for the WBO welterweight title in 2010.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum revealed that talks are underway for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight and added that there is no excuse for it not to happen.

"If it happens, we're considering the Cowboys Stadium," he said. "It is the only venue which has the capacity to host a big show such as the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight."

"I'd be that excited about the possibility. It'd be a great fight," Jones said. "Contemporarily, it'll be one of the greatest fights in the last 15 years when it does happen."

Jones wants to hold the fight in AT&T Stadium in Texas, which can seat up to 80,000 people - enough to comfortably accommodate the crowd that a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown could potentially draw.

"It needs to be in our stadium and I want to be a part of, working with Bob, CBS of course is really involved in the promotion of it," he said. "We'd love to just in any way have that fight here. It would be a real, well, it'd just be an epic event for our stadium." — Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
