SUV catches fire in Ilocos Sur

A sport utility vehicle burst into flames while crossing a bridge in Bantay town in Ilocos Sur on Wednesday.

While none of the eight passengers was hurt, the burning SUV blocked the Banaoang Bridge in Bantay, GMA Ilocos reported Thursday GMA News TV's "Balita Pilipinas Ngayon."

The initial investigation by the Bureau of Fire Protection showed the SUV came from Manila and was headed for Cagayan province.

Fire Inspector Eddie Tabuno, acting municipal fire marshal, said this could be due to an electrical short circuit or due to the vehicle overheating.

While no one was hurt, the report said some P500,000 may have been destroyed in the vehicle fire.

Tabuno said their findings showed the fire started at the backseat.

For his part, the owner of the SUV identified as Dirk Rompon declined to comment. — Joel Locsin/VC, GMA News
