Roach on Pacquiao-Mayweather: 'I think it's gonna happen

Talks of the much-awaited showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather just won't stop after the Filipino ring icon dominated Chris Algieri this month.

 

Negotiations for what would be the most lucrative fight in boxing history have repeatedly broken down over the years, with out-of-this-world demands and cheap verbal shots from Mayweather making it even harder from the showdown to come to fruition.

 

But with Pacquiao directly calling out Mayweather, Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach feels more positive than ever about the prospective contest.

 

"I've been talking to Bob Arum and with Manny calling Floyd out, I think it's gonna happen. It's perfect timing," Roach told thesweetscience.com.

 

"Manny looked good in his fight, Floyd looked just OK. Floyd has no one else to fight he had to fight Maidana twice! Arum told me he is gonna push real hard."

 

Should negotiations fall through, Roach is eyeing light welterweight king Danny Garcia as Pacquiao's next opponent. — JST, GMA News
