Pinoy nurse nabbed in New Jersey child sex sting —report

A young Filipino nurse were among the 24 arrested in a child sex sting in New Jersey, according to a report on NJ.com on Wednesday.

Christopher Vargas, 24 and a registered nurse, was charged with second-degree luring as part of the undercover sting operation "Open House" by New Jersey's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Vargas was accused of chatting with the intent of having sex with whom he thought was a 15-year-old boy but was, in actuality, a profile maintained by undercover cops on various apps and sites.

The nurse attempted to meet the teen at a house in Toms River, New Jersey only to be arrested by dozens of law enforcement officers.

ABC 7 reported that Vargas and 23 others, including a police officer and a registered sex offender, were arrested between September 5 to 9.

“It is a frightening reality that sexual predators are lurking on social media, ready to strike if they find a child who is vulnerable,” said Attorney General Grewal.

“We want child predators to know that we are on social media too – and the child they target may be the undercover officer who puts them in handcuffs," he continued.

Colonel Patrick Callahan of the New Jersey State Police said the fact that some of the suspects held "high positions of public service and authority" was disturbing.

"These arrests serve as a sobering reminder that parents should closely monitor their child’s online activity," Callahan noted.

New Jersey's Office of the Attorney General provided a full list of the suspects on their website along with the charges they were accused of and the age of the minor they chatted with. —Rie Takumi/LBG, GMA News
