Abused OFW from Jordan now undergoing treatment

Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW), Victoria Perdagorda, who was maltreated by her employer in Jordan has received assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and is currently being treated in a hospital in Pasig city.

According to OWWA Administrator Hans Cacdac, Perdagorda is now being assisted by the Repatriation assistance division of OWWA and that her case has been endorsed to the National Bureau of Investigation as well.

"Nandoon ang tao natin from the Repat- Assistance Division. Sinamahan po sya sa NBI and we will give medical cash and livelihood assistance," he added.

Aside from the medical, cash and livelihood assistance Cacdac said Perdagorda will be given legal assistance through the Department of Foreign Affairs for any possible legal action against Perdagorda's former female Jordanian employer.

Perdagorda, a  43-year-old mother went to Jordan in 2015 to work as a domestic helper for a family.

A year after, she said, her female employer started to beat and verbally abuse her.

Perdagorda said her wounds, bruises and swollen ears, chest, and legs were from the constant lashes and punches from her female employer whom she called Madam Ranya.

Her lady employer also confiscated her mobile phone and manipulated her social media account and made excuses to her family back in the Philippines so they wouldn’t be able to communicate to her directly.

Perdagorda recalls the time she was near death a few weeks ago, when her lady employer beat her up with so much force that she passed out. Her male employer, she recalled, saved her and brought her back to the Philippines.

Perdagorda said she wants justice but didn’t know what to do, because all she wanted was to save herself and go back to the Philippines.
