OFW in Saudi Arabia asks to be rescued from employers

A female Overseas Filipino Worker in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia asked to be rescued after her employer's son allegedly tried to rape her.

According to JP Soriano's report on State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, the OFW, identified as "Jane," sought help from GMA News.

Jane filmed herself minutes after the son reportedly tried to enter her quarters by force. She said the supposed rape attempt was foiled after she ran into the bathroom and started screaming.

Before the incident, the OFW had asked her employer and recruitment agency to allow her to return to home to the Philippines.

"Sana po tulungan niyo po akong makauwi. May mga anak pa po ako," Jane said in the video.

She was also forced to work for the relatives of her employer, which is not part of her work contract.

At the time Jane started to complain, her employer also began accusing her of stealing from them, which she strongly denied.

Her recruitment agency and employer already met to discuss her situation. However, she was not allowed to leave until she has paid in full the expenses incurred by her employer.

With the attempt of the son of employer to rape her, she is concerned over her safety while in Saudi Arabia.

Based on the news report, Jane's situation had been reported to the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Jane's husband also asked for help from GMA News for her immediate rescue.

"Iniisip ko lang 'yung anak ng amo niya na parang papasukin siya sa kuwarto niya. 'Yun ang pinapangamba ko. Ayaw ko pong umabot sa ganoon na mawalan ng ina 'yung mga anak ko," he said.

The government agencies vowed swift action through  the Philippine Embassy and member offices in Saudi Arabia. — Margaret Claire Layug/BAP, GMA News
