OFW in Saudi Arabia who jumped from roof still fears for her safety

An OFW in Saudi Arabia is now in stable condition after jumping off a roof to escape from her employer.

In a video that had gone viral on the internet, the woman only identified as "Emily" begged for help in returning to the Philippines.

In Maki Pulido's report on "24 Oras" on Thursday, Emily remained convinced that someone intended to kill her.

"Gusto ko lang pong makauwi sa kalagayan ko ngayon po na nahihirapan... Natatakot talaga ako dito," Emily maintained.

A fellow Filipina serving as Emily's nurse said they had yet to receive word from the Philippine Embassy in Saudi Arabia.

"Wala po 'yung pumunta na Embassy. 'Yung pumunta po dito, mga pulis lang po na nag-iimbestiga sa kaso niya," Renalyn Samorano told GMA News.

The Overseas Workers' Welfate Association (OWWA) has already notified the Philippine Consulate about Emily's situation.

Von Ryan Ferrera, the vice consul at the Philippine Embassy, said the matter had already been referred to him by Adnan Alonto, the Philippine Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.

The officer said they plan to send case officers to identify Emily's employers and take necessary measures to have the OFW repatriated, as well as straighten other concerns, such as her salary.

Emily was hospitalized and suffered bruises and gashes on all over her face after jumping off the roof of her employer's house.

The OFW reportedly tried to save herself after her employers starved her and took away her cellphone.

"Wala po siyang contact dito. Ako lang talaga naki-contact ng pamilya niya," Samorano said. —Margaret Claire Layug/JST, GMA News
