OFW cleared of murder charges in UAE finally arrives in PHL


Jennifer Dalquez, the Filipina household helper who has been acquitted of the crime of murder in United Arab Emirates, finally arrived home on Friday morning., the Filipina household helper who has been acquitted of the crime of murder in United Arab Emirates, finally arrived home on Friday morning.

Dalquez was crying when she was welcomed by government officials at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1, GMA News' Nimfa Ravelo reported on Super Radio dzBB.

Dalquez was very thankful for the junking of the charges filed against her that would otherwise have sent her to death row. 

She also thanked President Rodrigo Duterte as well as other involved government agencies.

"Nagpapasalamat po ako sa Pangulo... sa Panginoon na binigyan niya ko ng pagkakataon na makalaya. Taos-puso po akong nagpapasalamat sa Pangulo natin, si Rodrigo Duterte na tinulungan niya po ako na makalabas sa bilangguan," Dalquez told reporters.

She also expressed gratitude to her family and relatives for praying for her release from prison.

"Mga kapatid ko diyan, nanay, tatay, lolo... salamat po sa mga dasal niyo sa akin. Ipinagdasal niyo ko na makalabas sa bilangguan. Taos-puso po akong nagpapasalamat," Dalquez said.

Government agencies such as the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Social Welfare and Development and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration will extend financial assistance to Dalquez, the report said, adding she is scheduled to return to her home in General Santos City.

She was sentenced to death in 2015 after she was found guilty of murdering her employer. but acquitted in 2017 without diyyah or payment of blood money. She was released from prison on Thursday afternoon.

On December 12, 2014, Dalquez was arrested after stabbing to death her employer whom she had claimed was trying to rape her at knife-point.
