Slain Fil-Am a 'Straight A' student who wanted to study law —kin

Alaina Punzalan Housley, the Filipino-American teenager killed in the latest mass shooting incident in the United States, was a "Straight A" student who loved playing the piano and violin, according to her Filipino grandfather.

Interviewed on News To Go on Friday, Ernie Punzalan said based on information reaching them, Alaina was with her college friends enjoying a night at a bar when killed by the shooter, reportedly a former US Marine.

Aside from Alaina, 11 others, many of them college students, were also killed in the shooting spree. The shooter was also found dead.

"Napagod yung aming apo sa pagsasayaw [sa bar]. Umupo, nagpahinga. At the same time, dumating 'yung shooter. Yung mga kasama niya (Alaina), nakatakbo. Siya hindi nakatakbo kasi nakaupo," Punzalan, who is from Bataan, said.

Punzalan said Alaina, who was born and raised in the US, was an English major at Pepperdine University with dreams of studying law.

Once the paperwork is complete, Alaina, who is also the niece of actress Tamera Mowry, will be brought to Napa County where she will be buried, according to Punzalan. —KBK, GMA News
