Imus, Cavite choir wins 2018 Varna Grand Prix in Bulgaria

A choir from Imus, Cavite won the top prize in the recently concluded 39th International May Choir Competition in Varna, Bulgaria.

The Imusicapella Chamber Choir, under the musical direction of choirmaster Tristan Ignacio, bagged the prestigious "Holder Of Varna’ 2018 Grand Prix," as well as the first place in the competition's Chamber Choir category and the award for Best Interpretation of a Bulgarian piece by a foreign choir.

With its victory last Saturday, the 18-chorister group is set to compete at the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing in 2019.

The church choir based at the Our Lady of the Pillar Parish in Imus has represented the Philippines in over seven international singing competitions in the past, snagging top prizes in different choral competitions in France, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, USA, and South Korea. — MDM, GMA News
