First Pinay president of Utah Valley University fluent in many languages

US-based Filipina Astrid Tuminez, the first female president of the Utah Valley University (UVU), is fluent in six languages.

Aside from English, Tuminez also knows how to speak Russian, French and Spanish, as shown in a report on News To Go on Friday.

As she is born in Tigbauan in Iloilo, Tuminez is also good at speaking Ilonggo.

Born to a poor family, Tuminez said she spent noontime breaks in the school library reading books when she had no money to buy food.

She also said she studied Russian literature and Russian language in Brigham Young University in Utah.

After Brigham, Tuminez went to Harvard University and studied sovietology before finishing a doctoral degree at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. —KBK, GMA News
