The Manila city government is prepared to secure Pope Francis during his visit to the Philippines in January next year, former President and incumbent Mayor Joseph Estrada said.

A report on GMA News' Unang Balita on Wednesday said Estrada is also eyeing a two-day holiday in the city during the papal visit.

Pope Francis is to visit the Philippines from Jan. 15 to 19. Aside from Manila, he will visit Tacloban City, one of the areas hit hard by super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) in 2013.

"We are very much prepared for that... Kaya kami talagang full force, I think the Pope is well-secured," Estrada said.

The mayor said the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines have coordinated their security plans.

He noted the Pope is to visit Manila Cathedral, Luneta Grandstand, University of Santo Tomas and the residence of the Papal Nuncio in Manila.  Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
