The Manila city government will install additional closed-circuit television cameras and boost the Wi-Fi Internet signals in areas Pope Francis is expected to visit while in the country in January.

Vice Mayor Francisco Domagoso (a.k.a. Isko Moreno) said this is to accommodate the huge crowds expected to welcome the Pope, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported Friday.

Among the areas in Manila the Pope is expected to visit are:

  • University of Santo Tomas in Sampaloc, Manila
  • Manila Cathedral in Intramuros, Manila
  • Quirino Grandstand at Luneta

Earlier, organizers of the papal visit said they expect four to six million people at the Mass.

Moreno said they are looking at boosting Wi-Fi service especially at the Quirino Grandstand area, where the concluding Mass on Jan. 18 will be held.

On the other hand, he said they are drawing up the traffic rerouting and parking plans at the venues of the papal events.

Also, the Manila City Hall Action Center will serve as the central command post.

Earlier, Mayor Joseph Estrada announced a five-day holiday in Manila from Jan. 15 to 19.

The Pope is due to arrive Jan. 15 and visit Manila and Leyte - to meet with survivors of recent calamities such as super Typhoon Yolanda (Haiyan) - before leaving Jan. 19.  Joel Locsin/RSJ, GMA News
