Pope Francis on Christians, Catholics who engage in corruption: It is a plague
January 20, 2015 11:33am
Pope Francis has called on to Christians and Catholics to resist falling into the trap of corruption.

A report by GMA News' Kara David said the Pope Francis told journalists on his flight back from his visit to the Philippines that corruption has plagued daily life and even the Church.

"We have to ask forgiveness for Catholics and Christians who scandalize the Church with their corruption. It is a plague," he said.

Pope Francis added that while committing corruption is "easy," it should never be done.

"Corruption is to take away from the people. A person who does corruption, governs in a corrupt way, or associates himself with people who do corruption — robs the people," the Pope said.

"Corruption is easy. Let us remember this: sinners yes, corrupt never!"

Reject corruption

During his courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III in Malacañang on Friday, Pope Francis challenged politicians to "reject every form of corruption which diverts resources from the poor."

"Reforming the social structures which perpetuate poverty and the exclusion of the poor first requires a conversion of mind and heart," the Roman Catholic Church leader said.

“I hope that this prophetic summons will challenge everyone, at all levels of society, to reject every form of corruption which diverts resources from the poor, and to make concerted efforts to ensure the inclusion of every man and woman and child in the life of the community,” he added.

"Nagpapatuloy ng corruption. Siyempre, kaaway natin ‘yan, pero importante idaan natin sa tamang proseso para lahat ay nasa lugar at nasa katotohanan," he added.  Amanda Fernandez/RSJ, GMA News
