‘Laudato Si’ challenge for politicians running in 2016

"Laudato Si," Pope Francis' encyclical on caring for the environment, may be relevant in the May 2016 elections after all.

This was after a Manila Archdiocese official issued a challenge to prospective candidates for the 2016 polls to be responsible with campaign materials.

Wilson Chua, Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Parish coordinator to the Archdiocese of Manila Ecology Ministry, told Church-run Radyo Veritas candidates must watch how they use election paraphernalia and make sure it does not add to the tons of garbage generated every day.

“The government needs to do something on what is happening now, kasi it’s becoming serious and I think that seriousness is the call of the Holy Father to really take a look at what is happening to our climate and what can we do about it," he said.

"It’s an ecological crisis and we need to have an ecological response and the government should spearhead what should be done as a response and how to adopt because Asia will be the victim of this climate change,” he added.

Chua added this is a serious matter because an ecological crisis will affect everyone. Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
