Pope Francis’ arrival in the US
September 22, 2015 10:18pm
After his three-day visit to Cuba, Pope Francis is now on his way to the US for his first visit to the country.

Shepherd One will land at Joint Base Andrews just outside Washington D.C. at 4 p.m. EDT (4 a.m. Wednesday, Manila time). The Pope will be welcomed to the country by President Barack Obama.

The Vatican will be livestreaming the Pope's arrival. You can watch it below.

During the Pope's six-day visit to the US, he will:

- visit the White House;
- be the first pontiff ever to address the Joint Session of the US Congress;
- canonize the controversial 18th century Spanish friar Junípero Serra at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C.; and
- address the United Nations General Assembly.

Pope Francis will fly back to Rome on the evening of September 27 (Monday morning, Manila time).

While about six million Cubans and 70 million Americans are Catholic, the Pope's visits are even more meaningful due to his playing a vital role in the thawing of relations between the two countries. — BM, GMA News
