Pope Francis meets with American bishops
September 24, 2015 12:11am
After paying a visit to President Barack Obama at the White House, Pope Francis now heads to the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington D.C. to meet with the 450-man US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

The American bishops are generally seen as more conservative than the Argentinian pontiff. While the Pope had earlier said that the Church must stop being "obsessed" with issues like sexuality and contraceptive use, US bishops have focused much of their resources toward fighting the same.

Also, according to a report by The Guardian, only a few American bishops have come out strongly in support of the Pope's call to fight climate change.

Another topic that may be raised at this meeting is child molestation and sexual abuse perpetrated by the clergy. The Pope earlier said there should be "zero tolerance" toward abusive priests.

The Vatican is livestreaming the event, which will begin at 11:20 p.m. Manila time. You can watch the event as it happens below.
