Pope Francis arrives in New York City on 2nd leg of US visit

Pope Francis arrived on Thursday (September 24) afternoon to roaring crowds at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, hours after delivering a historic speech before the U.S. Congress.

Upon landing, the Argentine pontiff shook hands with fans outside and gave blessings before boarding a helicopter to downtown Manhattan.
 
He will lead evening prayer services at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Francis on Friday is due to address the United Nations General Assembly in New York and to celebrate an open-air Mass in Philadelphia on Sunday.   Reuters
