The 52nd International Eucharistic Congress will be held in Budapest, Hungary in 2020, announced Pope Francis in a taped video message that was shown last Sunday in Cebu City, the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported in its website.
The international event, which is held every four years, drew about 12,000 participants in Cebu which hosted the 51st IEC.
The pope's message was played during the IEC 2015 closing mass that was held at the South Road Properties, which was also the venue for the national thanksgiving mass in honor of the second Filipino saint, Visayan catechist Pedro Calungsod.
“I am happy to announce that the next International Eucharistic Congress will take place in 2020 in Budapest, Hungary,” Pope Francis said.
According to the CBCP website, it would be Hungary's second time to host the event after 82 years. In 1938, the 34th IEC was held in Budapest, Hungary, just a year after it was held in Manila in 1937. — BAP, GMA News
