A new archbishop will be installed at the Archdiocese in Lipa in April, according to a post on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) website.

Bishop Gilbert Garcera, the prelate of the diocese of Daet in Camarines Norte, has been appointed by Pope Francis.

Garcera is a member of the CBCP Permanent Council and is the chairman of the CBCP Episcopal Commission on Family and Life.

He was also among the five Filipinos invited by Pope Francis to participate in the historic Synod of Bishops on the Family held at the Vatican in October 2015.

The episcopal installation will be held on April 21 at the San Sebastian Cathedral in Lipa City in Batangas.

Garcera replaces Archbishop Ramon Arguelles, who retired on Feb. 2 after serving the Lipa archdiocese for 13 years.

The jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Lipa includes Batangas province and suffragan dioceses of Boac, Gumaca, Infanta, and Lucena. — BAP, GMA News
