San Sebastian, San Beda beat foes in NCAA women's volleyball

Defending six-time women's champion San Sebastian and San Beda scored contrasting wins over separate opponents in Friday's 87th NCAA women's volleyball action at the Lyceum of the Philippines University Gym. The Lady Stags swept the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers, 25-20, 25-10, 25-22, while the Red Lionesses posted a thrilling 25-22, 24-26, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8 decision against the Arellano Lady Chiefs. "Marami pang dapat mag-improve sa laro nila, pero mahaba pa naman yung liga kaya sabi ko sa kanila nasa kanila yun kung talagang determinado silang pangatawanan yung pagiging defending champion," said Lady Stags coach Roger Gorayeb after the Lady Stags collected their third straight win after a 0-2 start. JRU suffered its fifth loss in six games. In the other women's match, the Red Lionesses prevented a shutout for San Beda against Arellano after beating the Lady Chiefs. The Baby Chiefs defeated the Red Cubs, 25-18, 26-24, 25-16, while the Chiefs edged the Red Lions in a hotly-contested five-setter, 25-20, 16-25, 24-26, 25-18, 15-10. — JVP, GMA News
