NDRRMC: 'Sendong' death roll rises to 533, at least 309 missing


The death toll from tropical storm "Sendong" (Washi) jumped to 533 early Monday even as at least 309 remained missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said.
 
In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC also reported at least 16 people were injured while some 432 survivors were rescued.  
On Sunday evening, the Philippine Red Cross had claimed the death toll had risen to 652.
 
"Sendong" had affected some 24,680 families or 135,094 people in 173 villages in 24 towns and eight cities in 13 provinces, the NDRRMC added.
 
Of these, 8,128 families or 44,976 people are being served in 47 evacuation centers.
 
At least P1.2084 million in damage to agriculture was reported in Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur alone.
 
This included P500,900 in crops, P2,500 in livestock, and P705,000 in fisheries.
 
Some 1,334 houses were destroyed while 3,070 were damaged.
 
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, at least 377 people, three vessels and one motor banca remained stranded in Southern Luzon and Western Visayas.
 
At least nine road sections and bridges were damaged, including four road sections in Cordillera and Caraga, and five bridges in Central Visayas and Region 10. –KG, GMA News
