Award-winning collection 'Life Before X and Other Stories' out as eBook

Angelo R. Lacuesta's first collection, Life Before X and Other Stories, won the Madrigal-Gonzalez Best First Book Award and the Manila Critic's Circle National Book Award, and a new eBook edition has been released by The University of the Philippines Press and Flipside Digital Content, Inc. 

 

The book includes stories that won The Philippine Graphic Award and Carlos Palanca Memorial Award for short story in English like “Mermaid's Heart,” “The Last Retreat,” “Harvest,” “The Daughter of the Wind,” and “Life Before X.” 

This new edition has been re-edited by the author. “If it was going to be a re-release, I didn't want to either just come out with a .pdf version of what was already apparently still in the bookstores," says Lacuesta. “I used a very heavy hand in editing some of the stories because I could not imagine anyone reading them (or worse, reading them again) without wincing. I rewrote entire paragraphs. I changed an ending. But I think I also tried to retain some (well, maybe a lot) of the poorly written stuff -- for the sake of posterity, not propriety.”

About the Author 

Angelo R. Lacuesta has published four books and has won numerous prizes for his fiction, including several Palanca Awards, Philippine Graphic Awards, two National Book Awards, the NVM Gonzalez Award and the Madrigal-Gonzalez Best First Book Award. He is a former literary editor of the Philippines Free Press and is currently editor-at-large of Esquire Philippines. Life Before X and Other Stories is his first book.
