Corona brought to The Medical City after Senate testimony

(Updated 9:52 p.m.) Embattled Chief Justice Renato Corona arrived at an upscale hospital in Pasig City Tuesday night, hours after leaving the Senate where he took the witness stand in his impeachment trial.   Corona and his party arrived at The Medical City at 7:40 p.m., according to a report by radio dzBB's Paulo Santos.   The magistrate, who was said to have suffered from dizziness and low blood sugar after giving a lengthy opening statement at the trial, was accompanied by his wife and his security escorts.   Corona  arrived in a wheelchair, according to dzBB.   In another report on GMA News TV’s “State of the Nation,” Lia Mañalac-Del Castillo said Corona is undergoing a medical test at the hospital.   Corona’s son, Francis, who was interviewed by Del Castillo, did not confirm if the chief magistrate would be confined in The Medical City.   Corona’s condition ‘nothing serious’   Meanwhile, defense counsel Eduardo delos Angeles told GMA News Online over the phone that Corona has been rushed to the hospital.   Another defense lawyer, Judd Roy III, said in a separate phone interview he did not know where Corona was admitted.   He noted that the chief magistrate’s condition was “nothing serious.”   “He is in the care of his family. His son-in-law is a doctor. [His condition] is nothing serious. He is just quite weak,” Roy said.   “He will be alright. He had not eaten the whole day,” he added.   The Chief Justice earlier walked out of the impeachment court, a move that earned the ire of Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile, who ordered a lockdown to prevent Corona from leaving the Senate premises while the trial was going on.   After the walkout, the defense lawyer noted that Corona was given three bottles of soda and medication.  —VS, GMA News
