UAAP: FEU taps Nash Racela as new head coach

The Far Eastern University Tamaraws have replaced Bert Flores as their head coach, tapping the services of Nash Racela to take his place. Team manager and representative to the UAAP board Anton Montinola confirmed the change to GMA News Online via text message. Flores returned for a second stint of duty as Tamaraws head coach in 2011, replacing Glenn Capacio, and in two seasons, compiled a record of 18-10 in the elimination round. In Season 74, FEU stunned second-seeded Adamson University to advance to the Finals, where they were swept by Ateneo. The next year, the Tams lost a playoff against the DLSU Green Archers to finish fifth, outside of the Final Four. Racela, his replacement, is an assistant to former Ateneo head coach and current Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters head coach Norman Black in the PBA. The brother of Petron Blaze Boosters mentor Olsen Racela is also head coach of the PBA Developmental League's Fruitas Shakers. FEU loses just big men Clarence Foronda and Mark Bringas to graduation, although former MVP RR Garcia is undecided if he will return for his final year of collegiate eligibility.  The team may have an able replacement for him in the wings though, as athletics director Mark Molina  earlier tweeted out that the team has a written agreement from juniors division star and Baby Tam Jerie Pingoy to stay with Far Eastern in the seniors division. - AMD, GMA News
