NDRRMC: Korean rocket launch postponed anew; bans lifted

Philippine authorities on Thursday afternoon lifted the bans on fishing, flying and sailing, after South Korea's planned launch of a rocket that would send a satellite to space was postponed anew. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also said Thursday afternoon it will refocus its efforts on preparing for an incoming cyclone that may enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility this weekend. "May na-discover silang technical problem, ang terminology nila propulsion. Postponed muna [ang launch]," NDRRMC head Benito Ramos said in an interview on dzBB radio. "Ito nili-lift uli natin ang no-fly, no-sail, no-fish [order] para ang ating mga kababayan pwedeng mangisda until further notice," he added. The NDRRMC had imposed a ban on flying, sailing and fishing in areas where parts of the rocket may fall. Also, Ramos said the NDRRMC has downgraded its alert level from red to blue, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported. The NDRRMC had gone on red alert starting 8 a.m. Thursday to prepare for the rocket launch. The launch was initially scheduled on October 26, but Korea moved it to November 9. Again, it was reset for Nov. 15 but was, again, rescheduled for Nov. 29. The launch was called off one more time due to a technical problem. — LBG, GMA News
