Kara David visits Mangyan community of Dyangdang for 'I-Witness'

It all started with Kara David’s story “Ambulansyang de Paa” a documentary about the sacrifice and labors of the Mangyan community in Sitio Dyangdang, Mindoro to transport the seriously ill via makeshift hammocks or “ambulances on foot” through craggy trails.

 

The story showed a heartbreaking reality in far flung areas in the Philippines. It also caught the attention of award giving bodies local and international. In 2010, it won the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award.

 

But for Kara David it was more than a story.

 

Years after her first travel to the place, Kara continues to visit the Mangyan community of Dyangdang. She noticed that apart from roads and health care, the community was also without electricity.

 

With the help of volunteers and sponsors the Mangyans will be provided with solar panels.

 

Join Kara David as she ventures on her personal quest, bringing a glimmer of hope for the people of Sitio Dyangdang. I-Witness airs Monday, December 19.
