Google Doodle pays tribute to Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges

Search giant Google on Wednesday paid homage to Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges with a Google Doodle with architecture scenery representing regions with different languages. Clicking on the doodle that replaces the usual Google logo takes a visitor to a search results page for Borges, whose 112th birth anniversary Google was marking. Borges was born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) on Aug. 24, 1899 and died June 14, 1986 at age 86. Aside from being a writer, he was also an essayist, poet and translator. His family moved to Switzerland in 1914, and he attended school and traveled to Spain. Upon his return to Argentina in 1921, Borges began publishing his poems and essays in surrealist literary journals. His international fame was consolidated in the 1960s, due in part to the “Latin American Boom" and the success of Gabriel García Márquez’s Cien Años de Soledad (One Hundred Years of Solitude). Martin Missfeldt, Berlin based german artist, said the Google Doodle shows a wide architecture scenery, where an old man stands in front. "The different architecture styles reminds on different regions with different languages," he said. He noted that Borges studied German, French, and Latin. — RSJ, GMA News
