LOOK: Dolphin rescued off CamSur dies; necropsy set

The third time's a charm—a rather unlucky one, unfortunately, for a dolphin that died in Camarines Sur despite two previous rescue attempts.

The dolphin was rescued a third time near a resort off Camarines Sur province over the weekend but died on Sunday night.

Fisheries regional emergency stranding response team leader Nonie Enolva said a necropsy will be conducted Monday, GMA News correspondent Peewee Bacuño reported.

Enolva said they are not discounting the possibility the dolphin may have died from stress stemming from dynamite explosions.

She added they also want to determine if other causes were behind the dolphin's death, so they can take action against those who may be found responsible.

Photos tweeted by Bacuño showed the dolphin's lifeless remains:

On Saturday, the dolphin had been trapped in a resort's protection net off Sta. Rita island in Del Gallego town, but was freed and released back into the water.

It returned to the area Sunday, but some local residents caught the dolphin and tried to kill it for food.

Resort owner Sherwin Bugarin, an ecological volunteer, rushed to a barangay near his resort when he learned the dolphin had been caught by residents there.

There was tension when Bugarin confronted some of the local residents who caught the dolphin and refused to release it.

Bugarin's group forcibly took the dolphin and sped off aboard a speedboat. His group found wounds on the dolphin. He notified local Del Gallego officials of the incident. — Joel Locsin/TJD, GMA News
