Warning out vs porn spam campaign

A new porn spam campaign is making the rounds of the Internet, redirecting victims’ web browsers to hardcore porn websites, a computer security firm said Monday night.

Sophos said emails in the campaign have been spammed out to various recipients, claiming to have an adult video attached, using a variety of names.

“The emails themselves are very basic, and are designed merely to lure unsuspecting recipients into clicking on the attached file. If you do click on the attached file, however, your browser will be redirected to one of a series of pornographic websites,” it said in a blog post .

It said that while the email subject lines may vary, each has an HTML file attached with a woman’s name.

Sophos said its products block the spam messages, detecting the attached files as Mal/JSRedir-K.

Users were reminded to be cautious of clicking on unsolicited attachments, even as Sophos warned the redirections may eventually lead to websites with malicious software.

“Clearly, having your browser visit a hardcore porn website could be hard to explain to your boss (or, indeed, your partner) - but aside from that the bad guys could easily redirect your browser to visit a website with malicious intentions to infect your computer too,” it said. — RSJ, GMA News
