Developer pays tribute to Steve Jobs with browser iPod classic

A developer marked the first death anniversary of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs with a fitting tribute: a virtual iPod classic that runs on modern-day browsers. Pritesh Desai of Inventika Solutions recreated the original iPod using new Web technologies like HTML5 and CSS3 so it can run on new browsers. In a blog post, Desai said he chose to recreate the iPod because Apple’s greatest era started in 2001 with the tiny music player. "Steve Jobs pulled out the tiny mp3 player, the size of a deck of a cards and ushered Apple towards its greatest era," he said. The virtual iPod, accessible at http://inventikasolutions.com/demo/iPod/#, mimics the mechanics of the original, and includes a working scroll wheel. Going to the "About" in the menu will yield the following message: "This iPod is a tribute to Steve Jobs." A separate article on tech site Mashable said that while Desai's demo will not allow a user to load his or her own songs to the iPod, the simulation allows navigation to any song and playing it. "Desai has plans for further improvements, including adding a shuffle option as well as giving the clickwheel a subtle whirring sound when you spin it. He’s even entertaining the idea of making the battery indicator look like it’s run out the more you use it," Mashable said.
