Smart bra may replace mammogram?

The mammogram may soon give way to a smart bra in scanning women's breasts for signs of breast cancer, a tech site reported Thursday. A report on CNET said the Breast Tissue Screening Bra promises to be non-invasive and painless, and more accurate than 3D mammography. It said First Warning Systems' smart bra uses sensor to detect small temperature changes that indicate blood vessels growing and feeding tumors. That sensor communicates with pattern recognition software to help spot possible tumors before a manual check or mammogram likely would. CNET said the company plans to commercialize the system in Europe in 2013 and in the US by 2014, though there is no clear indication how much it will cost. After three clinical trials involving 650 participants, the report said the smart bra detected the potential beginning of tumors as many as six years before imaging can, CNET reported. It added the gadget has a 92.1 percent level of accuracy at correctly classifying them, far greater than the 70 percent accuracy in routine mammograms. — LBG, GMA News
