'Bad Piggies' gets cookbook spinoff

What better way to whet gamers' appetite for the rising hit spinoff mobile game "Bad Piggies" than —you guessed it— a cookbook app?

 

The cookbook app titled "Bad Piggies Best Egg Recipes," is initially available at Apple's App Store as a 264-MB download.

 

"Based on Bad Piggies’ Egg Recipes book, first published by Rovio Entertainment in 2011, this app is an excellent addition to your cookbook library and perfect for Angry Birds fans of all ages!" read the description of the app on the App Store.

 

It was offered at a special introductory price of 99 cents for a "limited time," before the price goes up to the normal $4.99.

 

The app came shortly after the launch of "Bad Piggies," a  spinoff game from the monster hit "Angry Birds."

 

Aside from 41 egg recipes, the app has interactive features such as full social media integration and a built-in photo album to save pictures of finished creations.

 

"(T)his is an iPad app that’s perfect for sharing and enjoying with friends. Just don’t tell the Angry Birds!" publisher Rovio Entertainment said.

A separate article on tech site The Next Web said the app was announced at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

 

“We wanted to create a cookbook that brings a family together to actively do things together with the characters they all love,” The Next Web quoted Peter Vesterbacka, ‘Mighty Eagle’ and CMO, as saying.

 

Sanna Lukander, VP of Books, said this cookbook is special because the photographs of the app are taken by the pigs, "which means that your own dish always looks better than the ones in the book.”

 

The Next Web also noted the physical "Angry Birds" cookbook released last year won “Best First Cookbook of the Year” at 2012’s Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

 

"If last year was the year of Angry Birds, with the release of the Bad Piggies game and cook book, it looks as though the pigs are having their moment of fame. Rightly so too, after all, what’s a bird to do if there are no pigs around to hurl yourself at?" The Next Web said. — TJD, GMA News
