Polaroid confirms making Android-powered camera

Polaroid, a name once synonymous with instant imaging, is working on a new camera with an "intro-interchangeable" lens and running Google's Android operating system.

 

An article on Imaging Resource said Polaroid will unveil the device at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in 2013.

 

"There will be an Android powered, interchangeable lens camera introduced by Polaroid at CES 2013 ... Additional information and specs will be released during the show," Scott Hardy, president and CEO of Polaroid told Imaging Resource in an emailed statement.

 

Imaging Resource said the rumors of a possible Polaroid mirrorless, compact system camera turned up on multiple sites recently.

 

The rumors indicate the camera will be called the IM1836 and will be manufactured for Polaroid by Sakar, it said.

 

Polaroid's supposed mirrorless camera will reportedly have an 18.1-megapixel sensor, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, and will run Android 4.

 

Imaging Resource also cited images of the camera on Dealscope magazine, but the images and the news release had since been removed.

 

During CES 2012, Polaroid unveiled the SC1630, a 16MP, HD-capable, point-and-shoot style camera that runs Android, though the camera has not yet gone on sale. — TJD, GMA News
