Macbook Air and Pro set to undergo revisions in 2013 

The MacBook Air, Apple's popular laptop line, may undergo changes in 2013, a Taiwanese tech site indicated over the weekend.

 

A report on "DigiTimes" said Apple has requested Taiwan-based supply chain makers for quotations for revisions for its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro products.

 

Citing its sources, "DigiTimes" said the changes for MacBook Air for 2013 will include a new processor platform, but not much else. 

 

Yet, it said the possibility of revisions to the popular laptop series are a cause of concern for vendors of the rival Ultrabooks, slim notebooks running mostly Windows.

 

The report cited its sources as saying Ultrabook vendors are concerned the MacBook Air's price may go down in time for the the launch of the new models.

 

"DigiTimes" said its sources estimated MacBook total shipments in 2013 may reach 17 million units, but sales may not reach a similar level.

 

In 2011, Apple sold 12.88 million MacBooks and 9.78 million more in the first three quarters of 2012.

 

A separate article on CNET said the processor platform could refer to Intel's Haswell, which promises better power efficiency.

 

"So, Apple could feasibly squeeze Haswell into the same or slightly thinner design with longer battery life. Haswell is also expected to include a graphics processing unit (GPU) that delivers a bigger jump in performance compared with past generations of Core processors," it said. -- KDM, GMA News
